Low Speed Flight Tests on a Tailless Delta Wing Aircraft (Avro 707B)
نویسنده
چکیده
SuMbiARY Flzght tests have been made to measure the static and dynamc longltudmal stability, the effect of ground on stabIll@, and the elevator pcwer of the Avro 7078 whxh has a delta wmg sweptback I$+.5c. A comparison of the results with those of tunnel tests IS made. There IS a loss of static atabIlIty, stxk fzed and free, above a lzft coefficwnt of 0.5. Stmk force/g at low speed is small particularly at the aft cg posItIon, although no great difficulties were encounterned due to this or the lack of static stability durmg the approach and landmg.

A piloted simulation study of the handling characteristics of the B.A.C. 221 aircraft in the approach configuration was made in preparation for the first flight of the aircraft. The simulation included a simpli~ed representation of the outside visual world, and cockpit motion in pitch and roll. Values of the aircraft's lateral derivatives and moments of inertia were varied to allow for uncertai...
متن کاملFlight mechanics of a tailless articulated wing aircraft.
This paper investigates the flight mechanics of a micro aerial vehicle without a vertical tail in an effort to reverse-engineer the agility of avian flight. The key to stability and control of such a tailless aircraft lies in the ability to control the incidence angles and dihedral angles of both wings independently. The dihedral angles can be varied symmetrically on both wings to control aircr...
متن کاملAerodynamic Characterization of an Off-the-Shelf Aircraft via Flight Test and Numerical Simulation
Characterization of an off-the-shelf small tailless aircraft with a wing span of 1.3m is presented. Mentioned aircraft is being used in several scientific measurement projects by authors, whereas the flight performance and quality such as endurance, and stability plays an important role on the measurement quality. Hence the main objective is to use the extracted and fine tuned aerodynamic and f...
متن کاملRobust MRAC for a Wing Rock Phenomenon in Delta Wing Aircrafts
Wing rock phenomenon is an undesired motion appears in high angles of attack where a rolling in the aircraft in positive and negative roll angles with specified amplitude and frequency is occurred. In this paper two adaptive controllers suggested to control the rolling dynamics under wing rock phenomenon for a delta wing aircraft with presence of disturbance. Disturbance was considered as unmat...
متن کاملA ote on the Dynamic Stability of Aircraft at High - Subsonic Speeds when Considering Unsteady Flow
The effect of an increase in speed relative to the speed of sound on the unsteady flow round a harmonically oscillating aerofoil, is to increase the lag of the aerodynamic forces and moments behind the deflection when the frequency is small. It is shown theoretically that this will result in a serious deterioration of the damping of both the lateral oscillation and the high frequency longitudin...
